Sustainability & CSR with the UK’s carbon-negative WEEE recycling company
We’re the first WEEE recycling company in the UK who go further than net zero. Work with us for secure, easy and compliant IT asset recycling that also benefits the planet.
We are carbon negative
Not just offset or net zero, but 100% additional carbon offset. Our carbon-negative operation and ethical, accountable WEEE recycling processes ensure that businesses can meet their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals with confidence—whilst we uphold ours.
Keeping track
We calculate our carbon emissions at every point of operations – miles driven, parcels posted, even the electricity to make our cups of tea
Treading lightly
We use low-energy equipment & lighting, electric vehicles for as many IT asset collections as possible, and support a robust tree-planting carbon offset program.
We double the offset
For every kilo of CO2 generated in our service, we offset 2 kilos — and you get a certificate of carbon offset for your records.
We offset more carbon than we generate by using UK-based tree-planting schemes to actively contribute to a greener future. These are schemes which plant native trees that are the right kind of species for the local ecosystem.
We’re leaders in the UK’s circular economy
Our commitment is to the circular economy through sustainable IT recycling. We do this by investing in UK-based carbon offset initiatives to ensure that our operations actively remove more CO₂ than they produce. Read more about our efforts in the circular economy.
- 100% WEEE-compliant by ensuring IT assets are processed responsibly.
- Zero landfill guarantee – everything is either reused or ethically recycled.
- Materials recovery – Circular economy solutions to extend the lifecycle of IT assets. Components such as plastics, circuit boards, and metals are extracted and reintroduced into the supply chain. Our recycling process ensures that valuable materials, including copper, aluminium, gold, and rare earth elements, are repurposed rather than wasted.
How do we meet our ESG & sustainability goals?
For organisations committed to sustainability, Zero Tech Waste makes it simple to turn goals into measurable results. Our IT recycling and data destruction services help you meet your ESG, CSR, and WEEE compliance requirements with full certification, reporting, and accountability. We provide:
- Audit-ready documentation and chain-of-custody tracking for every collection.
- Secure, certified data destruction to meet GDPR and information security standards.
- Detailed sustainability reporting, including our CO₂ offset.
Everything we do is built around responsible recycling and transparency. We reuse and recover as much as possible to support the circular economy, and we offset the remaining carbon impact through verified schemes.
We also publish our annual company CO₂ report to demonstrate our own environmental performance, helping you choose a partner that leads by example.
Sustainability & CSR – Frequently Asked Questions
Every piece of electrical equipment we recycle helps lower greenhouse gas emissions. By reusing and recovering materials like copper, aluminium, and rare metals, we reduce the need for raw material extraction, which is one of the largest sources of CO₂ in manufacturing. We also optimise our collection routes and recycling processes to minimise transportation emissions, ensuring every stage of recycling has the smallest possible carbon footprint.
Our energy source is a provider with low-to-zero carbon emissions at generation, and with full accountability over the CO2 impact, which we include in our reporting. We use electric vehicles for collections wherever possible, to reduce generated emissions at the tailpipe. For the collections we make with diesel or petrol vehicles, we report on the mileage and fuel consumption to account for the CO2. All the materials we collect are processed within the UK. This removes the need for global shipping with its associated environmental and ethical concerns). We use UK-native species tree planting to offset double the carbon we account for each year.
A circular economy is a model where products, materials, and resources are kept in use for as long as possible — rather than being discarded after one use. Our work directly supports this by refurbishing and reusing components and reintroducing recovered materials into the manufacturing cycle. This helps businesses reduce waste and dependency on finite natural resources.
Yes. We regularly track and report the quantities of equipment collected, materials recovered, and waste diverted from landfill. These metrics help us and our clients quantify the environmental benefit of responsible recycling. Upon request, we can provide impact summaries or data suitable for CSR and ESG reporting, showing measurable progress toward sustainability targets.
We make that easy. For every collection, we issue WEEE-compliant recycling certificates (WTN and HCN) detailing what was recycled and how it was processed. This documentation can be included in your CSR, ESG, or annual sustainability reports as evidence of your commitment to environmental responsibility and regulatory compliance. We also issue certificates of carbon offset for every collection.
Working with a licensed and environmentally certified recycler ensures your business meets all legal requirements under the WEEE Regulations and demonstrates best practice to clients and stakeholders. It also protects your brand reputation by ensuring all waste is handled ethically, transparently, and sustainably.
Yes — wherever possible, we test and refurbish working equipment for reuse. In some cases, we also donate refurbished items to educational or community projects, extending the useful life of the technology while supporting social good initiatives. This contributes both to environmental sustainability and community benefit.
Absolutely. Many of our clients use their partnership with Zero Tech Waste to support progress toward ISO 14001, B Corp, or net-zero targets. By recycling with us, you can show measurable reductions in waste, emissions, and environmental impact — backed by verifiable data and WEEE-compliant records.
Responsible recycling directly addresses the “E” (Environmental) component of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting. It demonstrates that your company takes proactive steps to manage its environmental footprint, reduce resource consumption, and comply with national and international sustainability standards.
Recovered materials such as metals, plastics, and glass are processed at approved facilities and then reintroduced into manufacturing supply chains. This reduces the need for virgin material extraction and supports industries that depend on sustainable sources for production.
Because we combine expertise, compliance, and transparency with a genuine commitment to the planet. Our end-to-end recycling service helps your business stay compliant with WEEE regulations, meet sustainability goals, and make a tangible contribution to the circular economy. When you choose Zero Tech Waste, you’re not just disposing of equipment — you’re making an investment in a cleaner, more responsible future.
