Carbon negative WEEE recycling & sustainability commitment

We do not just offset our impact. We go beyond it.

Reuse comes before recycling in everything we do. Our sustainable IT recycling service operates carbon-negative – offsetting more than we generate and processing everything within the UK.

Why is reuse always better than recycling?

We provide a secure, ethical, and sustainable IT recycling service to UK businesses. We bring a wealth of expertise from our decade in the data destruction and IT recycling sector, and a bold commitment to secure, Reuse Refurbish Recycle practices.

Responsible IT recycling should do more than keep equipment out of landfill. We have built our operations around a principle of genuine environmental accountability – from the way we handle collections to the partners we work with to offset our impact.

The most sustainable outcome for any piece of IT equipment is continued use. Manufacturing a new laptop or server requires significant energy, water, and raw materials. Refurbishing an existing device and returning it to active use avoids all of that.

Every device we collect is assessed for refurbishment potential before any recycling decision is made. Where reuse is possible, we pursue it. Where it is not, responsible materials recovery is the next step. Landfill and export are never part of how we operate.

This is what a reuse-first approach means in practice. It is also why the environmental credentials of our service are more robust than those of providers that process everything for materials recovery regardless of condition.

What does carbon-negative mean in practice?

FWe measure carbon emissions across our operations, including transport, energy use and logistics. As part of our commitment to sustainable IT recycling, we offset more than 5 times the the emissions we generate, maintaining a carbon-negative operation.  Combined with our ethical and fully accountable IT disposal processes, this helps businesses meet their ESG and sustainability objectives with confidence.

Our carbon and sustainability approach

Carbon Neutral Britain

Carbon Neutral Britain handles our verified carbon offsetting. We chose them because their projects are certified to the highest international standards: the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Gold Standard Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER), and UN Certified Emission Reductions (CER). This means the offsets are independently audited and publicly verifiable, not just a number on a certificate.

The portfolio spans renewable energy, reforestation, and habitat restoration projects across the UK and internationally, including woodland creation in England and mangrove restoration overseas. We chose them because every project is independently validated beyond the standard UN requirements, with satellite monitoring and continuous review over the crediting period.

When we say we offset our emissions, we mean it in a way we can evidence.

The National Forest Company

The National Forest Company is a charity doing something quietly remarkable in the Midlands – transforming 200 square miles of post-industrial landscape into native woodland that connects ancient forests, supports wildlife, and contributes to long-term carbon sequestration.

We donate to support their work because we believe the environmental case for UK native woodland is strong, and because backing something with deep roots in this country feels right for a business that processes everything on home soil. It is a small contribution to something much larger than us, and we are glad to be able to support it.

We pass this CO2 offset evidence on to you

Every Zero Tech Waste client receives a Carbon Offset Certificate as part of the standard service, providing documented evidence of the environmental benefit of their collection.

How do we reduce emissions from collections?

We use electric vehicles for collections wherever operationally possible. All routes are optimised to minimise mileage, and we report on fuel consumption and vehicle emissions as part of our annual carbon accounting. Nothing is exported, which removes the emissions associated with international shipping from our supply chain entirely.

How does IT recycling support your ESG commitments?

For organisations that need to demonstrate environmental responsibility to clients, stakeholders, or regulators, we make it straightforward. We provide:

  • WEEE-compliant recycling certificates (Waste Transfer for every collection
  • Certificates for both standard and enhanced of data destruction
  • A Carbon Offset Certificate documenting the verified environmental benefit
  • Detailed weight and materials reporting suitable for inclusion in CSR and ESG reports
  • We also publish our annual company CO2 report, so you can assess our own environmental performance as well as the benefit we deliver for yours.
